Darrell Drapeau, a South Dakota resident and former National Indian Council on Aging (NICOA) Senior Community Employment Program (SCSEP) participant, makes his mark as a newly elected member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe Business and Claims Committee, which governs the tribe. The Yankton Sioux Tribe General Election was held on September 7, 2017 and Darrell was chosen as one of the at-large Business and Claims Committee Members.
Darrell started his SCSEP training assignment as a library assistant at Ihanktonwan Community College Library on October 24, 2016. His duties included researching historical archives, updating tribal documents such as tribal codes, filing and arranging minutes, learning the Dewey Decimal System and cataloging library materials.
These duties allowed him to provide assistance to the public as needed. He was filled with so much excitement when he called the Central Region SCSEP office to inform us that he would no longer be in the program because of his new job.
“Darrell is so knowledgeable. He is truly a success story of this program,” stated Bill Roller, librarian, and Darrell’s host site supervisor. He was very proud of him, as are we at NICOA’s SCSEP. Darrell has done a great job in his assignment and is trustworthy and dependable. He has truly used SCSEP as stepping stone to his success.
