The following information is from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services CMS Dallas Regional Office:
In case you haven’t heard, we have new Medicare Cards being mailed out in our region again. This mailing wave includes Texas and New Mexico. Help remind those Medicare patients you work with to keep an eye out for the official envelope in the mail. Learn more here at https://www.cms.gov/medicare/new-medicare-card/nmc-home.html
For those of you in Oklahoma or Arkansas, those with Medicare should have all received their new cards by now. If not, please be sure to ask them to:
- Call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) where we can verify their identity, check their address, and help them get their new card
- Continue to use their current card to get health care services until they get their new card.
You can also print out and give them a copy of Still Waiting for Your New Card?, or you can order copies to hand out. Additionally, they can sign into https://www.mymedicare.gov/ to see if we mailed their card. If so, they can print an official card. (They must create an account if they do not already have one.)
Your Medicare patients should continue to protect their new number to prevent medical identity theft and health care fraud. We will continue to raise awareness about potential scams and how they can prevent fraud through our outreach and in addition to the national fraud prevention campaign launched in September before Medicare Open Enrollment.
With all of that said, we have a few national news items, new MLN materials, and other resources you might find useful. Please share this information with your contacts/associates as appropriate. Thank you for all that you do!
Sincerely,
Melissa Scarborough, MPH, CHES
