September is Health Aging Month! NICOA encourages Elders, caregivers, families and communities to look for creative ways to live with greater health and vitality this month. Below we offer printable tips and tools to help you get started.
On September 21 NICOA honors our Elders as it celebrates Indian Elders Day. On this this day in 1976 NICOA was founded by members of the National Tribal Chairmen’s Association. Members included the late Wendell Chino (Mescalero Apache), the late Joe DeLaCruz (Quinault) and other tribal leaders. These leaders saw the need for a national organization whose sole purpose is to advocate for improved comprehensive health, social services and economic well-being of American Indian and Alaska Native Elders. NICOA pays tribute to our founders, whose vision and commitment built the foundation of NICOA’s ongoing advocacy work on behalf of our Elders.
