The 2021 National Senior Games, presented by Humana, will be held in Greater Fort Lauderdale, Florida November 5-18, 2021. The National Senior Games, a 20-sport, biennial competition for people age 50 and over, is the largest multi-sport event in the world. It is expected to attract more than 10,000 athletes and an estimated 15,000 visitors.
The competition schedule will be posted in Spring 2021. An athlete must be at least 50 years of age by December 31, 2020 to qualify for the 2021 National Senior Games.
Athletes will compete in 20 medal sports that will be contested at the convention center and multiple venues. The convention center will be the hub of activity, with multiple sports contested in its halls over two weeks and a Village Health and Wellness Expo open to both athletes and the public with activities and exhibits. Sport action will take place at multiple venues around Broward County, Florida.
The National Senior Games has been held every other year since 1987 and has 54 affiliated qualifying Member Games in North America. The 2019 Games was hosted in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Other recent host cities in this decade include Birmingham (2017), Minneapolis-St. Paul (2015), Cleveland (2013) and Houston (2011).
The National Senior Games Association exists today as a nonprofit organization dedicated to motivating active adults to lead a healthy lifestyle through the Senior Games movement. The first National Senior Games was held in St. Louis in 1987 and hosted 3,400 senior athletes who competed in 15 different sports. Since its inception, 10 foreign countries and all 50 United States including the District of Columbia have been represented.
NSGA Member Organizations hold annual games with qualifying competitions in the year preceding The Games. Athletes that meet specific criteria while participating in the State Senior Games can qualify to participate in the National Senior Games. Registrations for the 2021 National Senior Games will open Spring 2021. Qualified athletes will be able to register for the 2021 Games when the state they qualified in are listed on the NSGA website. States are listed when all their results are submitted to NSGA and verified.
